It takes an African to truly know Africa, someone who has worked its soil, lived with it and cared for it, someone who has had a personal relationship with it, felt the joy of waking up with Africa and the excitement of experiencing its beauty. It takes and African to capture a record of these emotions that we experience on this timeless continent of ours.

Jan Kotzé is such a person. Inspired by his love for the African outdoors, he creates a record in the form of oil on canvas. Years of experience of the Zululand bush and a keen knowledge of the particular idiosyncrasies of African wildlife clearly influences the themes behind each of his paintings. His feel for the emotions that each of these scenes evokes in us is what defines him as an artist and gives his work its unique shape.
